Rep. Floyd appointed to House Study Committee

House Speaker Glenn Richardson (R-Hiram) has tapped state Rep. Hugh Floyd (D-Norcross) to the House Study Committee on Reporting Requirements for Local School Systems.

“I am pleased that Rep. Floyd has accepted this responsibility,” Richardson said. “I am confident that he will do a great job for our state.”

The committee will be looking into making recommendations to the next General Assembly in 2007 regarding reporting requirements for local school systems. House Resolution 410, creating the study committee, originated out of concern about the increasing number of reports and data that local school systems are required to submit to state government and the Department of Education.

Members of the Georgia House of Representatives believe that it is in the best interest of the public education system of Georgia to review the reporting requirements of local school systems, and to determine whether those reports are necessary to meet and exceed the goals of public education.

The study committee will end its meetings on December 31, 2006.
