Rep. Hugh Floyd announces candidacy for re-election

NORCROSS – State Rep. Hugh Floyd (D-Norcross) has announced he will be a candidate for re-election to the House District 99 post in the 2008 election.

“It has been an honor and privilege to represent the people of southwest Gwinnett County for the past six years in the state legislature,” Floyd said. “I am now asking the voters to put that experience to work once again, so that together we can continue to support our public schools, make our neighborhoods cleaner and safer and find common-sense solutions to issues like transportation, health care and tax relief.”

Floyd is seeking his fourth term in the House of Representatives. He serves on the House Economic Development & Tourism, Education, Government Affairs and Industrial Relations committees.

Hugh and his wife Judy have been married 44 years and have lived 36 of those years in Gwinnett County. They have two children and one grandchild. Hugh is a retired sales representative and served eight years in the Georgia Air National Guard.

He is a longtime community leader, serving eight years as president of the Parent Teacher Student Association at Meadowcreek High School and eight years as president of the Blackwood Hills Association. He has also been active in the Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services, Gwinnett Alliance for Youth, Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful and the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District, among others.

The primary is scheduled for July 15, and the General Election will be held Nov. 4.
